Perplexity opens up how it serves search embeddings at speed
Perplexity published how it serves the embeddings behind its search, using three in-house components benchmarked against vLLM. Its finding: inference engines now perform about the same on current hardware, and the speed comes from the runtime around the model. Useful if anyone quotes you for private search over your own documents.
- If someone is building search over your documents, ask what re-indexing costs and how fast a cold query returns.
- Judge any private search demo on your own documents, not on the vendor's sample data.
