Apple tightens Mac disk access as AI agents grow riskier
Apple told developers it will add new controls to Full Disk Access on the Mac, the permission that lets an app read everything, including files, mail, messages and browsing history. Apple says some developers use it in ways users do not fully understand, and that the risk will grow as AI agents get more capable. Granting it will need "very explicit user action". No date was given.
- On each work Mac, open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Full Disk Access, and switch off every app that does not need it.
- Run any desktop AI agent under a separate Mac user account that only holds work files, not your personal messages and mail.
