Microsoft 365 Family and Premium move to 2 TB of shared OneDrive storage, down from 1 TB per person
Microsoft published a support page saying Microsoft 365 Family and Premium subscriptions now include 2 TB of shared storage, and Microsoft 365 Pro includes 5 TB, with the owner and up to five members drawing from one pool. Previously each of up to six people had 1 TB. Files stay private to each member. New and upgraded subscriptions get shared storage from 8 October 2026. Existing subscribers move at their first renewal on or after 2 May 2027, and some may receive temporary bonus storage. The Register calculates a loss of up to 4 TB of combined capacity on a fully shared Family plan.
- If your business files sit on a shared Family or Premium plan, add up what each person stores now and compare it with the new pool before your renewal after 2 May 2027.
- Moving to a higher plan or upgrading before then switches you to shared storage earlier, so check the new total first.
