Google's October AI recap: an AI-image checker goes worldwide in English, and scam alerts get an opt-in upgrade
Blockchain.News reports Google's October recap, published on 2 November. Google says it is expanding the SynthID Detector globally in English so people can check whether an image, video or audio clip was made with AI. It says Scam Detection in Phone by Google and Google Messages flags more than 5 million suspected scam calls and texts a month, and Android is adding an opt-in Enhanced protection mode in Google Messages.
- If a picture or clip looks suspicious, use the built-in checks in Search, Chrome or the Gemini app before you share it, and treat a missing watermark as unknown rather than proof it is real.
- On Android, look in Google Messages settings for the Enhanced protection option when it reaches your phone, and turn on the scam warnings in the Phone and Messages apps.
