Meta's new commercial terms let it crawl the websites linked to your business account and use them to train AI

MEMeta Commercial Terms· 16 Oct

Meta published updated Commercial Terms that take effect on 30 October 2026. A new clause has the business authorise Meta, or anyone acting for it, to use automated software such as scrapers, bots and crawlers to access, index, cache, analyse and collect the domains, web pages and URLs tied to its products or services, and to pull updates from them periodically. Meta may use that content to provide, develop, improve, research and train its products and features. The page describes no way to opt out of the clause short of ending business use of Meta's products.

  • Open the Commercial Terms preview on facebook.com before 30 October and read the section called Licenses and Rights You Provide Meta. Note which of your websites are linked to your Meta Pages, ad accounts and catalogues.
  • Decide now whether anything on those sites, such as price lists, customer photos or paid content, should not be copied into AI training. If it should not, ask your web developer about the options before the terms start.
