Test accounts for a 13-year-old reached 135 AI nudify apps on Apple and Google, even with parental controls on
The Tech Transparency Project made four test accounts for a 13-year-old boy, two on Apple and two on Google, one of each with parental controls. Between them they could download 135 nudify apps, which turn photos of real people into explicit images. Both stores also showed the accounts ads for such apps. The group says app age ratings come from questionnaires the developers fill in, so apps with explicit features carried ratings suitable for children.
- If a child in your family has a phone, check the apps they have installed, and look for photo editors and outfit try-on apps you do not recognise.
- In the phone's family settings, turn on purchase approval and set the app age limit to the child's real age, then ask the child to tell you before installing any app that edits photos.
