Microsoft says Windows 11 is up to 20% more responsive and helps PCs with 8GB of memory most
Microsoft says Windows 11 updates that were tested with Windows Insiders are starting to roll out broadly. It claims the system is up to 20% more responsive, including on boot, Start, File Explorer, Search and Microsoft 365. Windows can now keep up to 2GB more active data in memory, which Microsoft says matters most on PCs with 8GB. On PCs with 8GB or less, Widgets load only when opened, freeing more than 200MB. Windows Update gets more control over timing and fewer restarts, and Windows Hello face and fingerprint sign-in is faster and more reliable.
- Check which PCs in your business have 8GB of memory. These are the ones Microsoft says gain most, so install the update there first when it reaches them.
- When the new Windows Update settings arrive, set active hours and restart timing so updates do not interrupt a till, a booking system or a call.
