Spain reports its first data breach carried out by an AI agent

The Register· 16 Sep

Spain's data protection agency, the AEPD, reported the country's first personal data breach caused by an autonomous AI agent. Someone used an agent built on a known large language model to scan an organisation, find flaws and reach files holding personal data and invoices. The agency called for an immediate review of security and data protection models.

  • Limit who and what can reach files with customer data and invoices, and remove access nobody needs.
  • Check your suppliers' security, and make sure you know how you would report a breach to your data protection authority.
