US House votes to keep AI data center costs off household power bills

The House passed the Ratepayer Protection Act by 417 votes to 3. It aims to make tech companies pay for new power infrastructure serving data centres, rather than passing the cost on to ordinary electricity customers. The Senate still has to act. Who pays for AI's power is now a mainstream political issue.
