TechCrunch keeps a running list of AI projects that shut down, and it keeps getting longer

TechCrunch· 24 Oct

TechCrunch keeps an updated list of AI projects that did not make it: Humane's AI Pin (shut down, team and patents sold to HP), Rabbit's R1 (weak reviews, now pivoting to a software app), Notion's AI email app Notion Mail (shut 22 September), the chat apps Huxe and Yupp, the design tool Figgs AI, and Microsoft's Recall feature, pulled back after a security backlash. Character.ai, after barring under-18 users from open-ended chat, saw its former parent file for bankruptcy. Apple's own Siri AI rebuild has been pushed back repeatedly.

  • Before you commit a workflow, a subscription or your data to a new AI app, search its name plus 'shut down' or 'discontinued' first.
  • Keep your prompts, templates and exported data outside any single AI app, so a shutdown does not cost you your work.
