Amazon's cloud arm is sold out of computing capacity through next year, its CEO says
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said AWS has sold out its cloud computing capacity for 2026, is largely booked through 2027, and has committed a good chunk of 2028, even as Amazon plans roughly $220 billion in capital spending this year. Jassy said running AI remains roughly ten times too costly for broad business adoption, and pointed to Amazon's own Trainium chips, which he said offer 30% to 40% better price-performance, as part of the answer.
- If a supplier or app you depend on runs on AWS, ask them whether they have locked in the capacity they need, especially if you are planning to scale up.
- Budget for cloud and AI tool costs to stay high for a while longer. Jassy's own numbers suggest prices are not about to fall sharply.
