Android adds Gemini scam checks in Messages, screen-share privacy and call-forwarding protection
Google announced new Android scam defences on 14 October. Enhanced protection mode in Google Messages is an opt-in setting that uses Gemini to judge a conversation with an unknown sender, and Gemini Nano checks unfamiliar links before you tap. Screen sharing now blanks login and payment fields in Chrome. Android also blocks apps from quietly switching on call forwarding, which scammers use to steal one-time codes.
- When Enhanced protection mode reaches your phone in the coming weeks, switch it on for the phones your team uses for customer and supplier messages.
- Tell staff that a bank or supplier asking them to type a call-forwarding code on the dial pad is a scam, and that they should hang up and call back on a number they already trust.
