Akamai says verified AI crawlers, ChatGPT among them, have moved from simply reading pages to sending high-frequency POST requests, the kind used for logins, baskets and checkouts. In a 30-day analysis of its customers, ecommerce accounted for 44.8% of those AI bot POST transactions, and travel climbed to 30% in a single month. Akamai did not say which actions the bots perform.
- Ask whoever runs your website to show how much AI bot traffic reaches your login, basket and checkout pages.
- Decide which AI agents you want to let through, and block or rate-limit the rest with your hosting or security provider.
