Claude Opus 5.5: top-tier results, 20% cheaper
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5 at $4 per million input tokens and $20 output, 20% below Opus 5, with cache reads 60% cheaper. It performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1, costs about 40% less to run than Opus 5 and writes over 30% faster. Sonnet and Haiku 5.5 are due in weeks.
- If you use Opus 5 anywhere, switch the model name and compare a week of results.
- Use caching for repeated instructions. That is where most of the saving is.
