DeepSeek puts its open-source AI agent in a desktop app for Mac and Windows
DeepSeek has released desktop apps for DeepSeek Harness, its open-source AI agent, for Apple silicon Macs and 64-bit Windows. The v0.2 preview targets everyday office work as well as coding: users can send documents, spreadsheets or PDFs and ask for charts or slides, review generated files in a sidebar, and schedule recurring prompts with a run history. It works with a DeepSeek account or an API key and can also use other providers' models. DeepSeek warns that breaking changes will follow.
- Try it on a spare machine with test files first, not live customer or finance documents: it is a preview, and work sent to DeepSeek's own hosted models goes to a company based in China.
- If the scheduled tasks appeal, point it at a model provider you already trust through its OpenAI-compatible settings, so your data stays with that supplier.
