Claude Haiku 5.5 launches at about 75 percent less than Haiku 4.5, and Sonnet 5.5 gets cheaper too
Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5, which it calls its cheapest, fastest and most capable small model. It is aimed at high-volume, cost-sensitive work such as summaries, classification and live customer support, and costs around 75 percent less to run than Haiku 4.5. Input is $0.10 per million tokens for prompts up to 100,000 tokens, and output is $0.50. Anthropic also halved Sonnet 5.5's cache-read price, which it says cuts most agent work by about 20 percent.
- If you pay for an AI tool by usage, ask the supplier whether it will move to Haiku 5.5 and whether the saving reaches your bill.
- For routine jobs like sorting enquiries, tagging emails or drafting short replies, test a cheap model first and keep the expensive one for the hard cases.
