Can AI glasses replace your prescription glasses? Engadget lists weight, battery and privacy as the catches
Engadget reports that AI glasses can be bought with prescription lenses, for example Ray-Ban Meta, where a prescription is uploaded and the lenses are fitted. Regular glasses weigh 20 to 30 grams, it says, while smart glasses can reach 80 grams, and the battery lasts an average of 3 to 5 hours. Courts in England and Wales have banned Meta glasses, New York followed in July, and many schools and workplaces ban them too.
- If you need your glasses to see, keep a normal pair as your main one and treat AI glasses as a second pair for specific uses.
- Check the rules at your school, workplace or courthouse before you wear camera glasses there, because the camera is the usual reason for a ban.
