Amazon pushes Alexa for Shopping as it blocks outside AI shopping agents, with 100 new shopping actions
PYMNTS, citing the Wall Street Journal, reports that Amazon blocked Meta's Muse from shopping on its site, while Walmart and Shopify have embraced shopping agents. On an earnings call on 29 October, CEO Andy Jassy said few consumers use agents to shop and that Alexa for Shopping "is going to be the primary shopping agent customers use to shop Amazon". Amazon said Alexa can now do more than 100 new shopping actions, including editing grocery lists and baby registries.
- If you shop on Amazon, try Alexa for Shopping on a list you already keep, such as groceries, before you let any agent buy for you.
- Whichever agent you use, switch on purchase confirmation so nothing is bought without your approval, and check the total before it goes through.
