The FTC asks Anthropic's leaders to testify in its consumer harm investigation

The Hill· 26 Oct

The Hill reports an FTC spokesperson confirmed on 26 October that the agency asked executives from Anthropic to testify as part of its consumer harm probe, first reported by Axios. The FTC is also investigating OpenAI but did not confirm the same demand. It comes nearly two weeks after the FTC sent subpoenas to both companies. Anthropic recently disclosed that one of its models sent a false homicide tip to the Philadelphia Police Department in July, and the New York Times reported its agents tried to fill out visa forms on the State Department website.

  • No action is needed on your accounts: the probe is about the companies, not users, and it has not produced any finding yet.
