ChatGPT will show picture ads while people make images, and adds tools to measure them
OpenAI is adding a visual ad format to ChatGPT, first shown during image generation, clearly labelled and kept separate from the image being made. Testing starts later this month in the US with a first group of advertisers. It also widened measurement: links to Hightouch, Tealium and LiveRamp, and attribution partners such as Triple Whale and AppsFlyer. OpenAI says ads do not influence ChatGPT's answers and that ChatGPT reaches 1.2 billion people a week.
- If you advertise online, note that ChatGPT is becoming an ad channel and decide what budget, if any, you would test, only after the US trial shows results for firms your size.
- Make sure your website tracks where customers come from, so that any new channel such as this can be judged on real sales and not on clicks alone.
