Meta says it removed the line in its new business terms that let it train AI on content from your linked websites
The Verge reported on 17 October that Meta removed a sentence from its updated Commercial Terms that said Meta may use any content from a business's linked domains, web pages or URLs to train its products. A Meta spokesperson said the crawling terms only apply to its ads and business products, that nothing changes how its web crawlers work, and that robots.txt preferences still count.
- Open the Commercial Terms preview on facebook.com, find the section called Licenses and Rights You Provide Meta and read what it says today. When we opened the preview page on the morning of 18 October, the sentence about training was still showing for us, so do not assume it has gone.
- If you run ads or a Page for your business, keep a copy of the version you accept before the terms start on 30 October, and make sure your robots.txt says what you want for crawlers.
