Reddit's chief executive says Google's AI Mode 'does not drive traffic' after Reddit lost over a million Google visits a week
The Decoder reports that Reddit lost more than one million Google search referrals per week in October. Chief executive Steve Huffman blamed Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, saying AI Mode drives no traffic to Reddit and, as far as he knows, to nobody else. Reddit's stock fell more than 25 percent despite strong earnings. Reddit says demand for the platform has not changed, and it is testing login walls outside the US.
- Check how many of your website visits come from Google search in your analytics for the last three months, and write down the number so you can see a change.
- Do not rely on Google alone: build a way to reach customers directly, such as an email list, a WhatsApp group or a Google Business Profile with reviews.
