Apple says Apple Intelligence reaches iPhones in China in December with iOS 27.3, using Alibaba's Qwen in place of ChatGPT
The Apple Post reports that Apple has confirmed on its Chinese newsroom that Apple Intelligence will launch in China in December as part of iOS 27.3, with developer beta testing starting on 4 November. The first wave includes Live Translation, Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence, Clean Up in Photos, Genmoji, email and notification summaries, call summaries and Type to Siri. Alibaba's Qwen will sit behind Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence. Apple says the new Siri AI shown at WWDC26 is not part of this first release.
- If you or your family use an iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro or newer in China, check that the phone and Siri language are set to a supported language before December so the features turn on.
- If you run a business that sells to customers in China, do not promise them the newest Siri features yet: Apple says they are not in this release.
