Etsy bans AI-made patterns and recipes and now requires one unedited photo of the real item in every listing
Etsy updated its rules on 22 October. Sellers must include at least one unaltered photo of the actual item against a real background, and any extra AI-assisted images must show what the buyer will really get. Functional guides such as patterns and recipes cannot be created with AI and must show a real result. Bot-generated listings with no human involved are banned. Sellers must still disclose AI use.
- If you sell on Etsy, go through your listings now: add one unedited photo of the real item on a real background, and pull or rewrite any pattern, recipe or guide that AI drafted.
- If AI helps with your product photos or descriptions, say so in the listing as Etsy requires, and keep your own part clear. AI-made art is still allowed when the seller plays a clear role and is open about it.
