The latest Ramp AI Index, built from the card and bill data of more than 70,000 US companies, shows business spending on AI has fallen since a peak in July while usage has risen about 50 percent to a record at the end of September. Ramp's economist puts it down to price cuts and cheaper lite models, driven by competition between OpenAI and Anthropic.
- Check what you pay for AI subscriptions and API use against the current price lists. Several providers have cut prices or added cheaper models since the summer.
- For routine jobs such as sorting email or summarising notes, test the cheaper lite or mini version of the model you already use before paying for the top one.
