A growing list of AI assistants now work by text message, with no app to install

TechCrunch· 3 Oct

TechCrunch lists the most notable AI agents you reach by text instead of an app, among them Caddy, Fambot, Folk, Instinct, Iris, Martin, Miso and Ohai. They work in iMessage, RCS, SMS, WhatsApp or Telegram, connect to email and calendars, and carry out tasks such as scheduling, reminders, research and reservations. Several are free in beta or cost about $8 to $10 a month.

  • Try one text-based assistant for a week on a single chore, such as chasing appointments or building tomorrow's to-do list, before paying for anything.
  • Before you connect a work email or calendar, read what the assistant is allowed to do on your behalf, and start with a spare account if you can.
