Public Discord messages may start showing up in Google Search from 16 November, unless you opt out
9to5Google reports that Discord says every Discoverable Server will get a Server Web Page with a summary and discussion summaries pulled from public channels. Conversations judged noteworthy by an AI model or a moderator could appear there, and so in search engines such as Google. Individual users can opt out in User Settings, then Data and Privacy. Discord says the changes take effect from 16 November.
- Open Discord, go to User Settings, then Data and Privacy, and switch off the option that lets your public messages appear in server web pages, before 16 November.
- If you run a community server, decide whether it should stay Discoverable. 9to5Google says admins can exclude channels and summaries, but opting the whole server out seems to need a change of server type.
