Google now says it may use your Gmail, Drive and Photos to target ads if you let Gemini and Search see them

GOGoogle Privacy Policy· 23 Oct

Google's Privacy Policy, effective 16 October, still says it does not show personalised ads based on your content from Drive, Gmail or Google Photos, but now adds: unless you choose to make data from these services available to other Google services that support personalised ads. The Verge and 9to5Google read that as covering people who connect those apps to Gemini and Search through Personal Intelligence. Google says advertisers do not get your content or your name.

  • Open your Google Account, go to Data and privacy, and check whether Personal Intelligence or connected apps are on for Gmail, Drive and Photos. Switch off any you do not need.
  • Open My Ad Center and turn off personalised ads, or turn off personalised recommendations in your Search personalisation settings, as The Verge suggests.
