Meta delays its new business terms to 20 November after publishers warned they could let it scrape sites for AI
The Verge reports that Meta is delaying its new business terms from 30 October to 20 November, after publishers worried they could let Meta scrape sites for AI training. Meta spokesperson Daniel Roberts said the delay gives time to explain what is changing and what is not, and that content owners can still use robots.txt to signal preferences. The News/Media Alliance had written to Mark Zuckerberg demanding changes.
- Keep the 20 November date in your diary, and still read the Licenses and Rights You Provide Meta section of the Commercial Terms preview before then. Save a copy of what you are accepting.
- Check that your site's robots.txt says what you want for crawlers, since Meta points to it as the way to signal your preferences.
